High School Softball · Lady Horns One Win Away From State

Game 1

It only took five innings to take care the Cache Bulldogs in round one.  Defense was dialed in, bats were hot, and Emmy was doing work.  Lone Grove had 16 hits in game one.  Logan Graves, Taleigh Nail, Sami Skelly, and Shelby Stevenson all had doubles.  The RBIs were plenty as well…Logan Graves 3, Sami Skelly 3, Shelby Stevenson 3, Jordan Johnson, Taleigh Nail 2.  Johnson and Nail had three hits each to lead the Longhorns.  Emmy Guthrie totally shut down the Bulldogs, throwing another no-hitter.  She had nine strikeouts, zero earned runs, and zero hits in only five innings of work.  51 of her 70 pitches were for strikes.  The game ended with the Longhorns totally out powering the Bulldogs 13-0.

Game 2

Next, the Lady Horns faced the Blanchard Lions.  The Lions beat Tecumseh in their first game to get to the Longhorns in the second round.  Lone Grove didn’t miss a step against Blanchard.  The Longhorns continued with their hot hitting stringing together 13 hits along with two bombs by Shelby Stevenson, and Sami Skelly.  Skelly hit a three run dinger in the fourth and Stevenson hit a towering solo shot in the sixth.  Maci McMurtrey led the ladies with three hits on four at bats.  Emmy Guthrie was nearly perfect yet again.  She went six innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out ten and walking one.  The final score was 10-0 Longhorns.

The Lady Horns will face the winner of the 11am game Friday morning.  That game will take place at 1:00pm.  If the ladies win Friday, they will punch their ticket to the state tournament next week.  Let’s go ladies!!!
